What it is
Midjourney is the most acclaimed AI image generator for artistic and cinematic output. It has long set the benchmark for visual quality, composition, and style. Originally Discord-only, it now has a full web app. It competes with Flux (photorealism) and Ideogram (text rendering), but leads on pure aesthetics.

- Subscribe at midjourney.com — no free tier since 2024; Basic $10/mo, Pro $60/mo for Stealth + 30h fast hours.
- In the web app (Discord legacy still works), open the Create panel — V7 is default since May 2026; V6 still selectable.
- Type a prompt; use /describe on a reference image to extract style notes you can fold back in.
- Toggle Style Reference (--sref URL) and/or Character Reference (--cref URL) for visual consistency across generations.
- Click Generate (4-image grid), upscale the best (U1–U4), vary (V1–V4), or push into the Editor for outpaint / inpaint.
- Downloads are PNG; Pro tier covers commercial use under Midjourney's terms.
